The world of the late Middle Ages in Britain was dominated by an emphasis on faith--with a focus on the next world--and a romantic literary spirit
The Christianity influence grew, with that monasteries were built and became centers of learning for monks and various kings took manners to the church and that's how the church created monasteries. Pagan beliefs still co-existed withing the christian religion. Women would go on pilgrimages or religious journeys to seek blessings. Romance in Middle Ages used chivalry as a code of ethic. Woman were almost completely absent form literature. That was until the late Middle Ages. Women were believed to be most beautiful mistresses of all. They were characterized with gray or green eyes, blonde hair, and rosy cheeks. The "courtly love" relationship is model-led on the feudal relationship between a knight and his liege lord. The ladies are in complete control of the relationship. |
Depth Psychology: The Basis for Archetypal Analysis
We will be working with psychological approaches to movies and stories called "Archetypal Analysis." This will involve symbols that go beyond culture and time.
To really understand where Archetypes come from, one must understand where the theories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung come from regarding the collective unconscious. |
Archetypes of the quest in transformers (2007)
A long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron (Threshold Guardian) a war is being waged between the noble Autobots who are being commanded by Mentor Optimus Prime, and the devious Minions of the devil figure the decepticons, who are being commanded by the dreaded Devil Figure (Megatron) for control over the Supernatural Aid (Allspark), a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possesses it. The Loyal Companions (Autobots) managed to smuggle the Allspark off the planet, but Megatron blasts off in search of it. He eventually tracks it to the planet of Earth, but his reckless desire for power sends him right into the Arctic Ocean, and the sheer cold forces him into a paralyzed state. His body is later found by Captain Archibald Witwicky, but before going into a comatose state Megatron (Black) uses the last of his energy to engrave into the Captain's glasses a map showing the location of the Allspark (Green), and to send a transmission to Cybertron. Megatron is then carried away aboard the Captain's ship. A century later, Captain Witwicky's grandson the Hero Sam Witwicky (nicknamed Spike by his friends) buys his first car. To his shock, he discovers it to be his Herald Bumblebee, an Autobot in disguise who is to protect Spike, who possesses the Captain's glasses and the map engraved on them. But Bumblebee is not the only Transformer to have arrived on Earth - in the desert of Qatar, the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base, causing the Pentagon to send their special Sector Seven agents to capture all "specimens of this alien race." Spike and his girlfriend Mikaela (Damsel in Distress) find themselves in the midst of a grand battle between the Scapegoats the Autobots and the Decepticons (Good vs. Evil), stretching from Hoover Dam all the way to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, deep inside Hoover Dam, the cryogenically stored body of Megatron awakens.
